Will RFID be absolete?

I have been thinking whether RFID will be absolete? or to be substituted with an advanced technology. Research & Development (R&D) will tell as to whether the technology will harmonise privacy and data protection. Perhaps, Privacy Impact Assessment will be widely adopted. Time will tell.
